Sounds dead. Try a head-cleaning disk, otherwise buy a new one and send me the dead one :)
Telegames (UK) will fix it for a price (£50 i think) but it's not really worth it unless it has some scratches you're proud of. Keep the games and eBay yourself a new one.

BTW, I was serious about sending me the old one if you decide to buy a new one...I can use the casing to fix mine :)
Hint: never take them apart unless you wish to spend an hour putting the damn thing back together again ;-)
