Hi,

Thanks to everybody who has reported this bug to us, I have managed to work out what is going on. For some reason some sound cards seem to be reporting their current frequency totally wrong, causing Steem to output its sound 6 times less clearly than it should. This will be fixed in the next version of Steem which should be out sometime within the next 3 weeks.
