Do you have a graphics card in your TT?
X is dog slow on mine. I do not have a video card, which I think is why it is slow. Then again, it may be because I am spoiled by the Sun Blade 1000s at work.... :)
What windows manager are you running, BTW?

Hello, I use Debian "Potato" Linux 2.2.0 on my TT, and I dont know what Chris has done, but its faster than Mandrake 7.2 on my AMD 400!!! - maybe its all down to how you install them perhaps? and of course, KDE and Gnome are not worth bothering with, so blackbox, ICE, FWM, VFWM and so on are your only sensible options.
