Linux is popular because its free?

This is only partly true!

Yes, you can download ANY distro of linux you could care to mention, but then, you can also download any version of MicroSoft too ( If you know where to look hehe )

Hey, do you know the new version of the uncrackable version of Windows that cannot be installed more than twice?

Well, does anyone want a cracked copy?

Only joking, but its available!

Seriously though, linux is free, yes, but thats NOT the main reason why its so poular, its popular with servers because its stable, and compared to NT its simple to upgrade or alter ( Ask many NT server admins and they will tell you that they wished that they could use Linux instead of NT )

Its also much, much more secure against hackers, thats not to say that ahackers cannot get into Linux servers, no, of course its possible, and I dare say it does happen more than many will admit, but its still far more secure than NT EVER is!

I read with some disgust about some sites that are freely open to hackers... I will dig out the locations, but there is a £2500 prize for anyone who hacks them ( Yeah, 2.5grand prize for info that will save the companies involved millions! - they can piss off ) but it also says that in a competition, NT had better security than Linux in the tests.

Now, the sad thing about this, was that NT was only just a little more secure than linux, and yet, the NT server had EVERY kind of anti-hacker program, wall, or secure protocols that MicroSoft could throw at it, and yet the linux installed was a bog-standard straight out of the box release with NOTHING extra!

Now, this is typical MicroSoft, they are a bunch of arseholes, they know it, and everyone else should know it.

I do admit freely that Linux is slow compared to Windows as a bog standard installation though... My god its pretty abysmal actually, and for a good linux these days, you really do nee a good PC to run it.

However, Linux is really geared towards networking, and all you need to do, is recompile the kernal, and remove all the networking rubbish, that you dont need, and what have you got? - a machine that suddenly runs many times faster than before.

I run UnReal Tournament on my Linux box, and not only that, but I can run it perfectly fast enough at the same time as watching a movie, and also at the same time again, I can also record both the movie, and unreal tournament to seperate video files at the same time and I still get 65frames per second.. On a Pentium 200.

No way on this earth is Windows anywhere near as fast as that!

Once you know what to alter and tweak, you can boost linux up ten fold... Windows just does not have as much control as this.

Ah well, I have had enough of this linux crap, it is an Atari forum after all.

Why cant we all talk about MiNT instead?

After all, MiNT is very close to being Linux isnt it?

Now, I think MiNT is bollocks, lets argue about that! - Magic is brill etc. etc. etc.
