Erm, the XL and C64 were 8 bit NOT 16 bit.
Hope thats a mistake.
I cannot recommend Magic highly enough if you just want super fast multitasking on your Atari machine.
Many people out there would go for MiNT first, and thats great if you choose that, but DONT FALL INTO THE BLATANT LIE that MiNT is faster than Magic.
Is it bollocks like, its so much slower, that anyone who says its faster is either stupid, or a liar.
If you just want long filenames, then both do it perfectly, MiNT has better support for other filesystems, in fact I seriously doubt Magic can do anythign other than Windows 95 style to be honest.
Also many say that Magic cannot do good networking, and well, all I have to say, is that this is mostly true, except I have my TT networked to my Linux PC and its completely invisible, and I have NEVER had a single bit going missing in the time I have done this, so they have obviously not bothered to give it a serious go.
If you have an ST go for Magic and quadruple your Speed or more if you have NVDI, if you have a turbo'd up Falcon or TT then go for MiNT and run your software at the speed of an ST.
( Another wild stab at MiNT there )
You do realise that all the jib I keep giving MiNT is NOT entirely true of course, I just love to hate it.
