Fred,
You'll need to do several things:
1) go to a local Radio Shack (or similar) dealer to ask about a "null-modem" setup. This assumes that you have both a PC and an Atari in the same room.
2) Boot up Atariwriter. If it can save files as ASCII, do so. (otherwise, you'll get a lot of "garbage" characters on the screen.)
3) Using any Atari communication softare, and any PC communication package you have, set then up to communicate with each other.
4) When you have the two computers communicating with each other, you can then send each file from the Atari to your PC.
BTW, I was able to use this technique to archive my Atari fies on one of my PC's.
The "cents" sign you'll see are the 8-bit way of signaling an end of the line. In Word, it's character 155. Using the replace functiion of Word (Control F), replace all the "Alt-0155" characters with "^p".
Note: type the Alt-0155 by holding the Alt key and typing the 0155 on the numerica keypad. "^p" is Word's carriage return combination.
Good luck.
