What Eva says is right...this a different kind of terrorism to what we are used to. To me it feels different to what may be one that is initiated by, say Osam Bin Laden, or Hezbollah, etc.
These guys didn't leave a "sígnature"; they were apparently educated, middle class people. Some of them drank alcohol and had girlfriends, one even had a wife and kids. This is not typical of a religiously motivated attack.
Sure Bin Laden may have created a well developed network, but I suspect the network is now, through the internet and telephone become diffuse and widespread, and will sustain itself without a figurehead, purely through communication and self reinforcement.
The internet allows discussion groups such as onbe we are having now. These discussion groups can, like ours be ones that try to create undertanding. Or they could be ones that collect like minded individuals to mutually reinforce their beliefs, until it condenses into a group that meticulously plans and carries out such actions. Something as ephemoral as a thought becomes an atrocity of massive proportions. I mean is it at all possible that these guys planned and did this independantly of any other organisation?
Sure by targetting and "taking out" someone like Bin Laden, we can have sense that we have reacted, and not just stood by. Sure it is probably justifiable, even on the off chance that he wasn't involved. I guess people need to believe that someone can be brought to justice, and that "good" must in the end win.
I am not alone in being anti-Taleban, even as a muslim, so any excuse to end the regime is fine by me...but don't let us fool ourselves into thinking that modern day terrorism needs a man or even an overt organisation...it will just create itself whenever there is rage and hate.
So where do we go if the guys that were behind this attack died on the planes...what do we do if there is no one to hit back at?
