Hi Cohen,
In the very first hours of my 520 STf, the original, double-sided Epson floppy drive died by my hand (as I've inserted a screwdriver within! I was young..).. I could finally get a brand new HD floppy drive - one of the very first, which came from a PC (thanks Dad) - and it worked at the first try! The only think I had to do was to cut the plastic side of the 520, because of the size of the HD drive. But it worked.
Of course, I had 1.02 and I didn't change the FDC's frequency to 16 MHz, so I couldn't format 1.44 Mb floppies, but DD/DS floppies worked very nice for years (and still work, though).
You can also try transferring files between the ST and the PC using Ghostlink, you just need a null-modem cable (easy to find). If you need Ghostlink, you can find it on my website, http://lst.laserforce.org, in the "Programmes" page. I use it very often and it works pretty well (but pretty slow.. I can't go over 38400 bps).
Hope this helps...
