Ok Ok, I can see where this is all going.
ST Emulators are mainly for playing games.
A Few are good at Apps ( GEMulator is undoubtedly the most reliable with my stuff )
At the end of the day though, Emulation CAN NOT ( As things are ) even come close to what a real clone can do, and probably never will!
Clones these days, and for the last few years, DO HAVE ISA/PCI Ports, so what you are saying abotu PCs there is pretty much a duff subject, because ... Well, so do ataris
True though, and I can see that many will agree, that having some kind of add-on "HARDWARE" that forces teh PC to emulate an ATARI on Hardware rather than software level would no doubt make the Atari it emulates walk all over ANY PC.
I can say this quite happily, because ANY 680x0 processor is at least 2 times faster than a x86 equivalent, and more often than not, its 4 or more!
So, a 1GHz atari is therefore roughly the speed of a 4ghz PC
( Maybe? )
So yes, lower level emulation would be usefull, but as a standard DOS/Windows emulator, then it had better be somethign pretty bloody good to come close.
