Well, in most cases the solderpoints of the
mouse-port socket has come loose, typical for
STs in the 1040 case when unplugging the
mouse (wiggle wiggle), plugging in a joystick
(wiggle wiggle) and reconnecting the mouse
afterwards (wiggle some more).
Kind of easy to repair if you're good at
soldering. Open the case, take out keyboard,
lay it face down on a table with a bit of
room. Unscrew every single screw there is
(and boy, there's a lot).
Now carefully lift the keyboard PCB. The
keys will remain face down on the table,
don't move them.
Now resolder all pins of mouse and joystick
connectors. Carefully put the keyboard PCB
down onto the keys again, put in all screws
and viola. Mouse repaired.
