Yeah, I understand you very well.. :)
The problem with my Ataris now are the lack of power. I use to make CG graphics (raytracing, video fx, and so on) and unfortunately, even the best clone available or announced won't beat the two PCs I have in terms of computing speed.
I remember my first 320x200 renderings on my 520STf (with Pearl first, and DKB after), they took more than 8 hours (sometimes several DAYS) to be achieved, whereas it takes a few seconds at worst on the PC. And I can see the result in 32-bit mode, not in 16 colours or the maximum 29000 colours I can get with the MSTE and a special program. Moreover, I compute them now in very high resolutions, not only in 320x200...
That's mostly why I need those PC. And because I can use ADSL to connect to the Internet too. And, because, well, I can do everything with them too. But I swear that I still use my Ataris. For programming purposes for example. And because I'm still in love with them, whereas I've never had any good feeling for those anonymous PCs. And I've felt angry against them everytime I had to reinstall that f***ing Windows.
As an IT, I also have to work with PC (servers mostly), so you're right, thanks to the PC I can also earn those big bucks I need to live!
But I still dream of a renewal of Atari, a new clone which will supercedes any other computer... like in '85... ;)
I think we should stay in contact Jan, what about you?
Regards,
LST
