Just because an OS is not very successful doesn't mean it is CRAP. These other OSs are great products and would be even better if given the resources that a huge company like Microsoft has to offer. Microsoft is a dominating software giant due to the tremendous opportunity it was given by the giant IBM when it had Microsoft write the OS for its IBM PC. Any other viable software company could have done it. If IBM had held exclusive rights to the OS and hardware things would be very different today. It would be much more difficult for Microsoft to make its Windows OSs as dominating as they are today. IBM would be the largest PC producer instead of Dell. And former rivals such as Atari and Commodore might still be in business because they wouldn't have had to compete with such a huge PC market composed of IBM and all the pc clone companies. And with Microsoft entering the console gaming market with its Xbox, I wonder if in the future it will be our only choice.
