No, the Aux Video socket on your TV is for a Composite video signal, like most VCRs and some other consoles (notable the Atari XEGS) can put out. The 2600 puts out and RF signal, which needs to go where your aerial connects. That's why they were supplied with a switchbox, to make all that easier...
In the UK it's simple, remove the Co-ax aerial lead and plug in the one running from the Atari, then tune a spare station on your TV to Channel 36. I've never seen a US TV, but I think some of them have screw terminals for the aerial? And I think I remember someone saying to use channel 5? Does that make sense?
Anyhoo, your best bet is to leave the US and live in England, it will make setting up your 2600 way easier.
