It's only possible if you have a multi-frequency monitor, like the NEC MultiSync 4D that was on sale many years ago, regular VGA monitors don't synch at a low enough rate to pick up the video from the ST, in mono it's 71Hz which VGA monitors can handle...I know that's a very simplified and inaccurate but it remains so...
SCART leads offer a good compromise on video quality when using AV display equipment, I've used my Mega with a TV via SCART/Peritel and the picture was waaaay better than with an RF lead.
