It's still used quite a lot--only the odd newly-started demo archive uses the .ST disk format introduced with PaCifiST. For storing apps and such, it's often easier to just zip all the contents of the disk into one file--especially when you're on a PC and it only takes a few moments! (snarls at STZip running at a snail's pace on the MegaSTe)

Isn't it something like *after* the first 10 years that the company has gone under their copyrights expire? Or is that just some half-assed excuse from all of us classic computing & gaming people? <grin> It's serviced us well either way...

Actually, Gribnif if still in business and selling STeno for something like $60USD and NeoDesk for $90. Since Gribnif is still alive and they're still selling it commercially (and the copyright is still holding) that makes it illegal to distribute it. I'm not sure about the other two companies.
