It depends on the application you used to create the .doc files. Most of the text editors have the ability to export to ASCII (do not use ATASCII, if available). If you can export to ASCII, you should be able to successfully export them to the PC with all proper characters.

Now, if you no longer have the Atari to export the files, you have a problem!
