The idea is sound, and it would be relatively simple to do such a thing for older cards ( I say relatively simple like Quantum physics is realitevly simple of course )
Newer cards will not be possible under normal circumstances.
The reason behins this ( I am wrong, but... ) is that older cards simply used a driver to tell the O/S ( DOS ) what commands are needed to do a specific taks, in a specific way.
After Win 3, it got slightly different, but not that much.
And from Win95 onwards, things got completely off track, in that now many drivers use certain routines within the CPU as well as other routines built into the cards.
Now, its still possible, to say get a fairly high end Graphics cards to work, but you will never ( he says ) get any of the top end functions the card is capable of, because the card is designed to talk directly to an Intel compatible processor, and not a 68k. So in english, I think you will maybe get the things like great screen modes, and colours, but you will be no better off using an NVIDIA than you would of using an old 8 bit ISA
The same pretty much will go on any other card too, but of course, lets be honest, who wouldnt say no to having any kind of expantion slot in any kind of Atari?
I am of course saying ISA/PCI not VME... I dont think VME is financialy viable when you consider that old ISA Cards will more than likely be given to you if you asked for one at a PC Shop.
Hey, if they dont, just ask me, I have tons of the bastards!
