Yes, you could do that, but why?
There is a x86 thingy on those boards already,
that will mess up and slow down everything...
The most ideal thing we could find up now,
should be an universal MOBO with a CPUcard-
slot, and then start developing some cards.
The scene will never come to a common agreement
about what CPU to use in an new Atari clone!
So this should be the best option. If we put
TOS 4.04 ROMs and a 030/040 on a card to go
with the MOBO at deliver, then at least we
have a VERY powerful Falcon-clone to use,
while the Coldfire fans developes a Cf card
and some G3/G4 supporters do their stuff...
(Iīd be messing with some G4)
The 030 is a cheap CPU, though very poverful,
if used on a GOOD mobo. (full 32bit + SDRAM)
The only thing that would be a bit expensive,
is the DSP. The rest is standard circuitry,
so shouldnīt cost blood.
Hey, BTW;
With a full 32bit adress bus, that MOBO could
adress 4GB! The Falc is filled up with limits
like the 24bit ADR bus, 8bit DSP DATA BUS, aso.
Every single one of those Falc limits would
be gone for good, with such a MOBO.
The DSP on the TOSter would naturally be 100%
56001-compatible, though very much faster,
and certainly full 32bit. Maybe DSP56301/302?
So, later 060s have no FPU?
Just like the Coldfire, then...
Seems like MOTO haveing some problems to make
their FPU kernal run above some certain
frequency? Anyway, the 040 would be more than
enough for most tasks, especially together
with a DSP like that, or?
