I think You make one big mistake:
"compared to windows, Linux is..."
"Linux is better than windows in..."
Of course, if I had Pong installed as an OS it would still
be a good OS...compared to windows...
I have to admit that Linux seems to be the best
OS for PCs. Guess why Linux has no lobby on other
systems...OK, I agree, lots of modern OS (FreeMint, MacOS X, ...)
have a Unix-Kernel. But it seems nobody really
wants to have Linux on his non-PC.
OS in ROM: DVDPlayers?? Hey, we still talk about
computers, OK?
Perhaps I should give You a definition of what I call
a good OS, so we can avoid misunderstandings:
-I want my computer to be ready in 5 seconds after
turning it on.
-I want to switch it off whenever I want to.
-The OS has to be suchefficient that it could
easily run on an 8 MHz ST.
-The OS may not have a single byte left on my harddisk
except for a single file, sth.like "Desktop.Inf"
-I want DRIVES on my desktop. The Linux-kind-of-folders
are such strange!?
-The OS is nothing more than the OS.
A browser fitted in is nice but You see what Microsoft
did...I want a real market...
-If I want to upgrade the OS, FlashROMs should
do fine.
-It should run stable on itself. Linux is vey good here.
But just turn on a Win-PC and just leave it.
After a while it will crash.
We have several versions of Linux here and all PCs
have different configurations. It's a horror.
Linux is capable of being configurated in very
individual ways but that's simply a gimmick.
Most users want a useable dektop. Not more.
At least I do.
But I can only repeat: Yes, OK, if I would use
a PC regularly at home I would install Linux.
But has someone some BeOS experiece?
