In these days I use my standard STE 4 MB HD 48 MB just for the pleasure to code in machine language... In my opinion, 68K ML is the best machine language I know.
Since I am a coder, I am trying to use my ST as a very efficient web server, but I am writing the code in my (rare) free time...
BTW, consider this: I developed a project using Borland C++ Builder for Window$ and it took me 1 month and half for 8 files. Then I developed the same project using M$ Vi$ual Ba$ic: 1 intense week (10 hours per day) for 12 files (including .DLL). Finally, I developed the same project using GFA Basic 2.02 (GEM-AES) and its well-known objects: two calm days (13 hours - no surprises).
The speed of Atari code on my STE (16 Mhz) is slightly FASTER than the same code on my PC (450 Mhz)... :-D
On the contrary, hard disk access is rather slow... (of course)
Advantages? A lot. Disadvantages? Only one: most of common people does not know Atari and wants to have a colourful desktop.
Solutions? Ehm... Installing PaCifiST on PCs and then forcing (very) dumb secretaries to understand a second operating system while they are not able to understand the fir$t...
BTW - The program mentioned above, will be released very soon to all the Atarians 4 FREE downloading (!!)
