Yes, the Quadra 800 is the topoftheline model
but there is a Q900 too, though big as a house,
and have 30 pin SIMMS(slower) so itīs older.
I had one, but turned it into spare parts.
(that 68RC040/33 (w FPU) is now in my Centris 610)
Q800 has four 72 pin slots. Overclocking it
is just a matter of swapping one OSC chip on
the MOBO, but donīt go too high, or you lose
the serial interface. Happens around 38-40MHZ.

So do I. I used to have most of those things
you mentioned, on my Falcon. The camera had
to plug to the serial interface, cos there
was no USB when they made the Falc, so it
took loooong time to transfer them picīs.
It had a HP scanner and ORC soft to translate
scanned text into ASCII. Worked very good.
And it printed the text on a HP 870 deskjet.
All this, and more, in 800x600x256col without
extra hardware. That was enough back then,
but the TOSter will do every pix res / color
depth you want. For the LCD screen, you can
plug a TFT monitor to any computer (-except
an ST), As long as it have SVGA output.
Those screens are still VERY expensive, though.
Sound has always been Atariīs strong side.
I used Cubase Audio on the Falc, -8 track
DHD recording, in sync with up to 96 channels
of MIDI, that was very nice. And it could
play MP3īs too, taking up almost 100% CPU time.
Seen those small pocket-MP3 players? I plan
to put one of these MP3 chips on the TOSterīs
Motherboard. Then playing MP3īs via DMA will
not at all bother the CPU or the DSP. :)
Sucha chip can both pack/unpack MP3īs, very fast...
So all music and SFX on a game CD can be MP3!
Now, video camera...
Well, Iīve been thinking of a video digitizer
chip too, -thatīs just a matter of cost. We
can give the TOSter anything we want, as long
as we are willing to pay for it? I donīt say
that this chip is too expensive, but all this
stuff together, can be a bit costy.
(Quadra 630 & 900 both have video input and TV reciever)
Large harddrives are no problems
-Whatīs wrong with HDDRIVER? Already exist.
And Diamond edge/DADE beats everything else!!
(format/undelete/defrag/sectoredit/younameit)
I would like this merged into the OS, but...
Iīd like to give it RAID too, for better DHD
performance, but that might be too expensive.
Maybe as a plugin, later?
Anyway: -it tastes, it costs. But the TOSter
will be a cheap machine in comparition to all
the things you will be able to do with it.
USB and Ethernet will be very nice news,
-donīt you think?

I have Netlink (dial up) and they turn me off
every now and then, too. I donīt know what
this is, but Iīll go broadband via cableTV
soon, hope it desnīt happen there too.
