I think it is a bit split depending on what you are used to. I have used both, my opinion is Magic is simpler but MINT is a bit more powerful.
Mint is also very close to Linux so it should be easier to convert apps across (although that may not be the case as no one has yet, well not big good ones).
I have a MSTE which I suppose you could borrow for a while if you want to try out MINT (I may even have a video card, if not HIGH is no problem). No thrills, 16Mhz, 4mb, 280mb, 1.4mb, TOS2.06; is that notation understandable?
