If you do want to pprogram on the STE and use its hardware you are best off getting STOS, it has a number of extensions (plug in commands) that can tolk to the hardware.

All you need is here but the source code for STOS can be hard to get going, I surgest you try and find ST Format disk 74 (I think) for a assembled version. If you can't find it I can mail it to you.
As for GFA Basic, the only way of controling the hardware is to program it directly (poke, etc), you can find a hardware register list at;

Look in the misc section for hw_???.txt it has all of the info right up ontil the Falcon.
