Sorry, but I use a real Atari for Web Browsing so I don't know what subtle changes might be needed in the auto folder for magicmac. However, I might just ask a couple of questions.
1) Have you ever gotten an ST on the internet?
2) If so, do you have to use HS Modem with Magic Mac? My guess is that like on the ST magic fixes some problems but not all with the serial port.
3) Are you using STik II? PPP , or PPP with PAP, or a SLIP connection?
4) Maybe you Might want to try Icconnect;-).
I am familiar, with STING and ICCONECT. I haven't used STik II yet, and I have installed the old STik with Slip.
5) Aren't there better browsers out there for the Mac, including iCAB.
6) Ok no more questions, I am asking more than you.
Anyways, one last thing to look at might be the DNS cache. Sometimes these cause problems, holding the old information and forcing a disconnect on the 2nd call.
