Concerning the MIPs of an Intel CPU I had a DOS based program tell me my DX4@100MHz is about 30 MIPs. But, it all depends on what instuction is being looped, and how large the cache is as well. But, to compare between Motorola chips I guess it would be easiest to write a small assembler program that will do some instructions that can be run on all 680x0 without changes. Or, just work it out by maths. You know CPU speed, you know how many cycles it needs to access memory or so on... etc etc.
Zbench is OK, my only problem is it needs a high spec machine so you can't test STs with it and I work with Sts a lot so I tend to stick to my old tools.
PS, if you do make simple MIP counter, please direct answer via serial port!! Then you don't need screen, just terminal.
