Hi. Very good idea, I think.
Iīm just exploring MagiCMAC on-the-deep,
as I need to configure it up some better,
but unfortunately, since itīs in german,
I do have a big deal of trouble with it.
Thereīs a great way around that, though:
Run Jinnee desktop, and itīs all in english.
From Jinnee, one can configure everything
MagiC, and a whole lot of more. How about:
*) Separate background patterns (or photos)
in the desktop and the windows.
*) Support for a 3-button mouse, with scrollwheels.
(Macīs mice only have one button, my gosh!)
*) Jinnee can launch MAC programs, indeed!
You can start them just like GEM programs,
and pass files to them, using drag & drop.
(this only works with MagiC*MAC*, of course) :o)
This opens new spheres! MagiCMAC is not too
compatible with ST programs, especially not
when running in some huge res and col depth,
But Jinnee can run every MAC application,
which can run on that particular Macintosh.
(Photoshop, VIDEOshop, MAC CDplayer, all!)
Cab can indeed launch the MACīs Ethernet
application, for broadband internet!!!
(no need for STip anymore, with Jinnee)
On an AV machine, (MAC with TV/video in/out)
you can have TV-in-a-window, and digitize, and
one should be able to have live TV/video as
desktop background in MagiC/Jinnee! Pretty cool eh?
Iīm going to try that on my Q630AV, soon.
Did you buy the LC475?
We have some plans for our 475 here;
We are going to (try to) "TOSisize" it.
Meaning, a patched TOS in ROMS, the DSP from
my burned Falc, on a NUBUS card, and a parallel
printer port instead of Macīs serial one.
(for Parallelcopy)
Now, some bad news:
ASH has decided to put MagiC "on ice". :o(
ie they donīt develope it anymore, so your
idea on a usergroup is very good. Maybe, if
we all show them that their OS is still in
use, and will have more and more users soon,
they may change their desicion, and keep it
going. I think itīs up to us now...
There is a separate page about MagiC/Jinnee
on the soon(eventually) upcoming TOSter site,
do you want the job as chief director?
I donīt think Iīll have time to update that
page often enough, so if you want the job,
itīs yours. We might even open up a forum
entirely aimed for the MagiC/Jinnee page...
OK, now Iīm going to let my Quadra suffer. :)
