Actually, there was a much bigger security hole than the simple Windows 95 ignore.
This completely undocumented feature was only made available to OEM engineers testing Windows on systems, but, while installing Win98 IEM versions, if you hit a proper 3-key combination on the screen where you enter your personal and company name, hte screen asking for the serial number will not even appear! I'm not making this up. The key combos varied based on a few factors, I can't remember what exactly. On a version I had, I beleive the key combo was Ctrl+Shift+F3. But it could be something completely different on other versions.
I did see it done. It does work, but it's hard to figure out what exactly to press. I don't know if this feature existed on versions other than Win98 OEM first edition. Pretty funny though!
