>> is it safe & what procedure to compress drive?
Well, yes, its safe - I know that as long as your system is runing fine, so should the compression, but I also know that if somethign does go silly, then the whole lot will not be easily accessible because the compressed disk will be on a file on the disk, but as long as you make sure you have a backup of your Win95 boot floppy, WITH DRIVESPACE ON, you will be alright!
>>Where can I get a hard drive for about a fiver
Try MicroMart, or even a local shop that has second hand PC bits
>>shall I buy an old 286 with a hard drive?
No, the chances are it will cost more than its worth, and besides, the HD is more likely to be an RLL/MFM - 386 and up were mostly IDE though!
>>WELL I AM JUST NOT CONFIDENT WITH PC STUFF
Who is really? - I have been doing PC stuff since day 1 ( ok, I havent, but I have owned PCs since before the ZX81, and well before MicroSoft was about I think? ) and I still lose the plot every so often.
>>Still I shant have to bother with it for too much longer.
Wahey! - one down, couple of billion to go!
