Pressing ALT is correct, you have to release it in time to enable boot from floppy.
Do a cold-start (CTRL-SHIFT-ALT-DELETE) and
hold down the ALT-key. Wait for the HD-spinup and floppy LED to light up.
Release ALT-key.
The Falcon should now skip the HD boot and
boot from floppy-disk.
Some harddisk drivers also allow to divert the boot. Simply press "A" during boot, then
the harddisk driver (like HuSHi) does load
itself, but continue the boot from A:
It does not work with a lot of software since
most software that requires to boot from A: also refuses to run with the harddisk driver
in memory.
