I forgot which register to check for VGA or RGB, but for setting up the Videl i recommend to use Screen's Pain by the Independant.
It has an easy to use GEM-shell and produces an assembly or GFA-code that programs the Videl to exactly the setup you tested.
You can get it on most ftp-sites.
