Hmm, you may be partly right.
I feel kinda sorry for Rodolphe, honestly.
He has been working hard for a long time,
and has developed a very good CPU card.
But now, when he is about to deliver, then
Moto is about to release the Dragonball CPU,
which, to me, looks like it was designed for
use in just the Falcon. At a price that is
just a tiny fractal of the price of an 060...
(and it has USB & IR interfaces, and much more)
But hell, donīt let him down now! What if he
already have bought all those 060īs? They are
very expensive! So Iīd say, everyone who has
signed up, go ahead and buy!! Only reason I
didnīt sign up, I accidentally fried my Falc.
...And for the Coldfire:
Itīs still not TOS compatible. :o(
OK, it IS a 68k, thatīs what Motorola says,
but it is still missing a couple of very
important instructions, of the *real* 68Kīs.
Only chance is to emulate these instructions,
which will take LOADS of clockcycles, every
time they are used, just like the emulation
of some FPU instructions for the 040 does.
It would behave like a intel, you put in some
300MHZ, but what do you get out? 60-70 MIPS??
-Thatīs what a 040 will give you, at 66 MHZ!
Because you donīt have to emulate...
Yes, the CT060 will also have to emulate,
but only one single instruction.
In the Coldfire thereīs two of them missing.
Sure, you can "patch" the TOS, or even write
a new one, but then, what softwares are there??
Just some thoughts
