It is very obvious that the people responsible
for that site have no idea what they are
talking about.
I wrote something about this in an earlier
thread, but the last message in that was a
few weeks old, so you might have missed it.
The main point then was that the idea of
using a 68882 on the board so that an '040
can be used even though it is missing some
FPU instructions is worse than silly.- The '040 FPU is somewhere around ten times faster than the 68882 at the same clock frequency.
- The '040 lacks the coprocessor interface,
so it would need to talk to the 68882 as an
external chip.
- Every halfway modern FPU (not the x87) supports about the same set of FPU instructions as the '040, for very good reasons.
The '040 will never be 100% compatible with the '030 in any case.
Since I last looked at the site, another silly statement has been added regarding having to put an '040 on the chip too if they went the '060 way to "redirect the missing instructions to it"...
