Well, this is the step Atari-software has to d, just as
Mac software had to do when the PPC came out.
I don't say the CT060 is bad or too expensive or anything like that.
It just offers no future.
Only a newly designed computer can offer that.
After the death of Milan2 many users left Atari for the Mac or PCs.
No accelerator can make them retrun to this platform.
Just look at the Amiga-scene: They have phantastic accelerators,
even PPC accelerators, far more users but everybody there
is saying "Amiga is dead if there won't be a new Amiga",
despite of all accelerators.
At the Atari-Park there has been a developers-meeting.
As far as I know they also talked about the OS of the xTOS-machine;
I can't imagine that they won't do the necessary changes.
And demos: Just imagine what you could do on a coldfire
compared to a 68060 - of couse nobody will code pure 68k
on the coldfire.
Even the "emulation" (this word is a bit wrong here) would be very slow,
ST-, TT- and Falcon-programs will definately run fast enough!
After all there's also the Deesse-card which will be
included - and which comes along with the DSP56301.
Milan, Hades etc.were "just another clone" because
they were (for their time) much too slow or much too expensive.
The new coldfire-machine hopefully won't be too expensive
(Medusa promised that; the coldfire chip is also much cheaper than
an 68060!) and will offer those modern standards everybody is demanding
Don't foget that Motorola-CPUs are much faster than Intels at the same
MHz-rate.
Bye, Alex
