Yes, at a second look, the Colfire seems to
be *completely* unuseable for our purposes.
Wonder why Moto keep doing this? They insist
on releasing uncomplete processors, but sure
there would be no problem tuning a 040 up to
say, 200MHZ, and while they are on it, put
back those FPU instructions. After all, the
processor core in their new DragonBall is...
-a 66MHZ MC68EC000. So whatīs the problem? :o/
Motorola still claims that the Coldfire has a
"highly parallel instruction set" with the
68K family. Maybe itīs time to look around
for other brands? Both TI and Hitachi made
some 68Kīs in the 90īs, I have some here.
Perhaps TI wouldnīt mind making a 500MHZ
"68090", with complete instruction sets?
(ok, just dreaming, but a nice dream)
I agree, I also enjoy the existing programs,
and that is one good reason to remain 68K
for this machine. Do we have any choices??
Anyway, it will have a CPU-card slot, so those
who want, can try out any processor they like.
Those who want LOTS of megahertzes, can go
buy a 800MHZ G4 card, and slap it in the PCI.
-Hereīs where the hunt for new compilations starts, though...
