Hi Jo.
No, of course the 882 isnīt really needed there,
even if Centbench reported a 60% improvement on the FPU bar.
Tests with POV has shown that the increase in speed is obvious but marginal.
There is a second CPU card alternative,
with a 50MHZ 68030, which uses the 882 tho.
Some may wonder why a 030?
Well, itīs much cheaper, and some APPs
runs better on their native CPU.
The difference in speed is obvious,
but the difference in price may be more
important to some, at least for a start.
The important thing is still the full buses.
The sound system and the mixer were being
developed on one of those computers we lost. :(
we used DAīs from some dead CDROMīs in it.
8 line in and 8 (16) line out, sounds ok?
We are sorry that we havenīt felt up to
updating the site under these circumstances.
Things are a bit upside-down atm.
If you have plans for a DSP card for the Milan,
Iīm sure many Milan owners would buy one.
It could add some compatibility to the system,
many good softwares could be ran then.
Though, the DSP56001 has been taken out of production,
so there could be problems, finding some.
But maybe a 56309? At the start, we had the
DSP56311 in mind, but that changed...
When it comes to the Videl, nothing has still
been finally decided. "We are looking at"
several different and quite interesting options.
In the end, there may even be a Videl-card,
since one single solution obviously doesnīt
satisfy everyone, as we have seen lately.
And flexibility, like an upgradeable Videl,
doesnīt really hurt, we think.
Besides, we love flexibility.
ie, most details are still open...
Using existing drivers seemed to be quite
a bit more tricky than we had expected, yes.
At least when it comes to those dll thingys.
(never counted much on them anyway)
Unfortunately, not every device comes with
softwares for MAC too, else itīs much easier
to reach the commands there.
Of course the software for control of a device,
say a camera, will have to be written from
scratch, itīs only the commands we are after.
Canīt write a control soft without them.
Anyway, a MAC engine is likely to be developed
in Germany, this summer. Then at least all
USB devices made for MAC can be used.
We wish we had the time to update the site
with all new info, but after what happened,
we are most likely to take it offline for a while.
At least while we are in the studio.
We donīt know for how long that can be yet.
Hope this straightened some question marks.
Regards
Anders
