I'm not sure that the comparison of RISC to CISC is that simple. RISC is usually considered faster nowadays, but the chips I'm familiar with (Alpha, Sparc) are all 64-bit chips, while x86's and 68k's are 32-bit. So the 64-bit RISC chips are faster at same clock speed, but, of course, it's not as simple as that ;-)
About the constant x86 bashing. Everyone here always says that a 68k will beat out a matching generation x86 at the same clock speed. Does anyone actually have data on this? I would be interested to see an actual comparison of performance based on some benchmark. Frankly, I'm not convinced that the 68k will beat out the x86. If I saw some real data, then I'd be convinced.
So does anyone have any info? Thanks in advance!
