Please DON'T DO THE DROP METHOD!!!

It can make things worse. As suggested earlier, try opening up your machine and reseating the chips.

Maybe the floppy you are booting from is bad? Try booting from another one.

Your floppy drive could be going bad too. You could try replacing it with a good one. PC drives will work in the ST but will only work in 720k mode.
