In the docs it only mentions 1MB and 4MB simms, and since you have to set jumpers to configure your simm settings, i doubt 16 MB will work.
As for additional hardware, it should be okay, unless you have an internal 3.5 harddrive. Then you might run in space problems, since the gizmo extends towards the back of the Falcon, and sits between the floppy drive and the internal HD.
