Like Norman said - It would not only not look very good, it would also not be very fast.
Since a pixel does not consist of a byte or a word that is easy to access but is represented by 4 bits distributed over 4 words, the addressing of single pixels is really a drag.
I am pretty sure that Vroom uses pre-zoomed graphic blocks as well as realtime-zooming by fixed factors of 2, 4, 8 etc which is relatively easy to do by a little table even in ST-Low resolution.
That is totally sufficient for a game like Vroom.
