Oh my god, is my english THAT bad? ;-)
Okay I'll try again:
I'm just searching for people having the knowledge to build something like SIO2PC for the ST - a PC serving the ST with Data it normally would get through one of its drives,
like e.g. Disk Images I store on that PC. As with APE it would be great just to select on the PC server which image should be served, and the ST should be able to read it without the fuss of making Disks etc. XL people can do that, why shouldn't we?
Regarding the Software/Hardware question:
We have two kinds of software: the TOS friendly and the TOS unfriendly. TOS unfriendly programs (like Demos/Games etc.) will bypass any driver you try to install as they use the FDI-hardware directly to load data from the Floppy etc. Those programs won't work from Harddisk.
TOS friendly programs (Editors, Browsers, many Tools etc.) do use the TOS-Routines to access the Harddisk / load their Data. They wouldn't work from Harddisk if they didn't do so.
My point was, that it's not possible to get the first kind of software working just by using drivers. A hardware solution could make it possible, the ST will work as usual, as the interface would act as a Floppy Drive
and the ST won't "know" there's a difference. Thus no compatiblity proplems. No Software on the ST side for floppy disk interface "emulation".
The TOS friendly ones can be fooled to get/send their data to parallel or whatever by changing the driver. A software solution would work in 99.9% of all cases.
The main problem is the Hardware: an Interface to replace the STs Floppy Drive and connecting to one of the PCs parallel/serial/USB/whatever ports, so the PC can recieve the sector read requests and send the Data back to the ST...
I hope I made my point clearer this time?
