Oh, ok, I did understand you for most of it then.
Right, what you are asking is for hardware, NOT software connection between the ST-PC.
You would then have a program on the PC, that will let ou select an ST or MSA FloppyDisk Image, and the ST would simply access the floppy as normal, which in turn would actually be the Image on the PC!
Am I correct there???
If you are asking this, then that I see, is the only real way... Because if you want 100% compatibility, then you can ONLY do it for FloppyDisk Images... You cannot do it for HardDrive Images this way.
GhostLink was mentioned, and that works brilliantly for GEM Stuff, and for a HardDrive, however, its very slow on an ST, and even on the TT/Falcon at 115k its still shabby ( but useable ) so using that is an option for the HardDisk side of things.
I also think it could be possible though, to have a small "driver" routine, that will, on the ST, select an MSA Image, and "Virtually" put that image into RAM, to act as A: and then do a soft reset!
Its possible, and it will let you have your system to stay 100% Atari.
I wonder about that?
The thing is, that you are ( it seems to me ) trying to go a hell of a complex way around just trying to avoid using something that you already have!
Sort of like having a car, with free insurance / fuel etc, but still wanting to get the bus?
