Well, i guess it would be "possible" but then again, that would implement some kind of intelligence in the cable which would make things kind of expensive again.

If possible, it would be easier to go over the external Floppy connector of the ST.
It will be a lot easier to emulate an SF314 external diskdrive on the PC than to emulate an internal DD diskdrive and go directly over Shugart.
If you take out the internal diskdrive of the 1040 STf, does it automatically identify the external one as drive A: ?
If so, i'd say this is the way to go.
