Well, not exactly what I intend to do ;-)

Is it? What I've seen on pinouts and schematics lately gave me the impression that the external connector is giving quite the same signals as the shugart. But on the other hand I'm not too much into hardware any more ;-) What's exactly the difference between the internal and the external connector?

Unfortunately I am lacking an external drive, so I cannot test it. Weren't the Drive select Signals (DS0/DS1) to be switched to change Drive designations or something like that?
Anyone willing to help out here?

Given it's possible to connect the external connector and/or internal more or less directly to the Slave machine (PC/Falcon whatever) - what signals would I get? Aside from the Step signals and Step direction, how exactly is the rading process done?
AFAIR the whole track was read, only divided into sectors by Index signals and sync bytes - but does the drive send the whole track to the FDC?

Lots of questions;-)

BTW: Anyone planning on going to MekkaSymposium? There are Atari Compos this year and it might be a good place to talk about this topic in person...
