O.K., the set may be reduced, but the original controlling lines remain (step, direction, write data, read data) - the Data signals are not changed to an "easier" format to grab... I even don't know if they are serial data lines that could be connected directly to a computers serial port...

The Disk Select Signals have to be exchanged (just two diodes to solder AFAIK, but I'd rather go for a solution more "plug&play" ;-).
Unfortunately the internal connector does not carry the drive select A: and the external does not carry the drive select B: - if they would, the external connector might
be used (the host would just have to check if the correct disk select is set). Soldering might solve the problem, but... I don't want to ;-)
