for HD, suggest looking on eBay, as there are always a load of SCSI 1/2 hard drives, usually going for pretty cheap up to capacities of around 2Gb (should be adequate).
as for the other question, if you have a SCSI card in your PC/Mac, then they may read you HD, but it depends on how you have it formatted - i use my PC as a backup for the data.
if your pc/mac can't read it, then you could go for the expensive option of getting a HD tester/repairer, or you could... ask someone else, as iam not sure, sorry! sure that there is another way to rescue the HD though.
