They're using the absolute closest relative to the 68k CPU family (Coldfire is much more compatible than PowerPC) and it's actually quite fast! They also decided on using the Deese DSP card, which makes the machine absolutely faster than all emulation for any software that uses the DSP (which will probably be used heavily based on how much the Falcon DSP was used). This machine also features PCI and an AGP slot, so any hardware cards can be used as long as the drivers exist. And it features USB 2.0! Now that's impressive! And to top it all off, it will have the built-in MIDI ports, which every Atari user loves. The XTOS team thought about this before designing it. They probably realized that emulation is only the path to complete demise of a platform (with the possible exception of the Aranym system, but that's not exactly an emulator...). There are no companies who are going to produce commercial applications for an emulator. The XTOS machine will be modern and will probably be faster than any Atari user will need. It's being built by a company which has already delivered two Atari clones (Medusa and Hades). The XTOS will be an amazing machine for users who want to run modern Atari applications like Calamus SL 2002 and Papyrus. Again, remember that this company has already produced, in quantity, two different Atari clone computers. There is no reason to doubt the current project. I have complete confidence in the XTOS project. jeff
