This instruction is just a move instruction with the difference that the data is written to the destination adress with leaving interleaving of one byte move.l #$12345678,d0 lea somewhere,a0 move.l d0,(a0) results in something like that somewhere: $12 $00 $34 $00 $56 $00 $78 $00 this is only useful when accessing hardware registers and some special routines in demos (chunky2planar) - but it is very seldom used in normal applications. This is also the reason why motorola kicked this instruction out. (They analysed the code of a lot of programs to find out the least used instructions) Additionally, there exists a gcc for the coldfire - that makes sure that native code is generated. The overall-speed of the system depends much higher from the bus (memory and devices) than on these small amount of emulated instructions). greetings, Norman
