Unfortunately, the "CrossDOS" on the Amiga has the same problem reading "fat" DD disks with 800 and more KB as well.

An easy way is using a Nullmodem link between the Atari and the PC.
Then you could also format DD disks on the PC (or HD-disks with a covered index hole) to 720 KB size, copy Atari files on them using the Atari ST (-NOT- using disk-copy programs since they might erase the DOS-compatibility) and read them on the PC again.
