Does it have a slot for an internal diskdrive which is unused or is it a model that has no room for an internal diskdrive ?

Without a diskdrive, the Atari with ROM-TOS boots to an "empty" desktop. If it does not have a ROM-TOS, it should display a funky picture, requesting you to put the boot-disk in a drive.

So i doubt it is the missing diskdrive that causes your ST to repeative resets.
Replacement diskdrives only work internally and they MUST feature an ID-Jumper.
So be careful about your choice.
