Hi!
I'm a beta-tester of Steem for Linux. The author sent me a test-download URL. Here's what I found:
STATUS:
- sound OK when user has root's privileges (else no sound)
- "special effects" OK (demos with 512 colors, overscans...)
- floppy images (.ST, .MSA) correctly read and emulated
- no hard disk (neither images nor host dir)
USABILITY:
- The best! thanks to a perfect mouse and keyboard emulation
- The best! also thanks to the possibility to switch language (mandatory for Cpt Blood)
- good speed
- double size screen is possible in color
BUGS:
- none, as far as stability is concerned
- but display problems in the config panels (buttons may not be displayed but they are still there and usable)
CONCLUSION:
Only Hatari comes close where games are concerned. Steem for Linux is definitely more ST-compatible and fast. But I still use Hatari for placing ST games in Linux menus, because Hatari can be given the game.st file as a command-line parameter.
For hard disk access, you have to use STonX, which is way better in its last revision.
Bye,
Yves.
